This introductory set covers core symbols, not every spelling system or vowel variant.
Learn the special letters, then use them in your own words.
Off: type with your device’s keyboard. Turn on for the on-screen Wakhi keyboard.
S, Š, and Ṣ̌ are distinct letters. With Wakhi Standard enabled on a computer, type s once for s, ; then s for š, or s twice for ṣ̌. Press the keys in order, not together. There is no need to type twice and then use Backspace to get š.

|---|---|---|
| s → s | ;s → š | ss → ṣ̌ |
| z → z | ;z → ž | zz → ẓ̌ |
| j → j | ;j → ǰ | jj → ǰ̣ |
| Key once | Semicolon, then key | Key twice |

For an acute accent, type the backtick key (`) after a vowel, for example a` → á. The shortcuts u/ → ʉ́ and e/ → ə́ are also available.

Wakhi is an Iranian language spoken by communities in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and China. In Gojal and across the Pamirs, it connects everyday life with stories passed between generations.
Wakhi is written using Latin-based, Perso-Arabic, and Cyrillic systems. Conventions vary. Letter forms and example words follow the supplied Wakhi Qoyda review booklet. Sound guidance is retained from the earlier lesson edition. Administrators can correct letter forms and words.
Some Latin-based Wakhi systems include symbols of Greek or Cyrillic origin, such as δ, θ, and ы. Some readings from the scanned booklet are provisional and are flagged in the administrator editor. English sound comparisons are approximate, and the IPA notation identifies the intended sound more precisely.
